PlayStation VR2 is finally heading to retailers
The well-reviewed, yet pricey, PlayStation VR2 headset is making its way to retailers after a two-month stint of exclusivity at Sony's Direct consumer storefront. The company shared the news on Twitter, but has not set an official date or even announced what lucky retailers would get their mitts on the PS5-adjacent headset. Sony tells customers to check with local retailers for availability information. UK retailer ShopTo has suggested that the VR headset will be in stock starting May 12th, though it remains to be seen if that date holds for every online and brick-and-mortar retail location out there. It is worth noting that May 12th is when a little mom-and-pop video game called The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases on Switch, so get ready for crowds if you head into a store looking for just a VR headset.

The Morning After: The verdict on PlayStation VR2
PlayStation's next-gen VR headset is here. It's high-spec and, boy, high priced. Engadget's Devindra Hardawar says it's a massive step forward from the original PSVR, thanks to its high-resolution screens and innovative features like headset haptics. Back in 2016, when the original launched, VR was making another push into the mainstream, which kicked off with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The tech has evolved at an incredible pace, so seven years later, this sequel headset feels more comfortable and comes with far more advanced controllers.

PlayStation VR2 is exciting, exhausting and a new standard for VR
Its technical feats are notable, with 2000 x 2040 pixel resolution per eye. That's basically a 4K resolution screen pressed right up against your face. That means it offers a more pristine image than the $1,500 Meta Quest Pro. Paired with OLED technology that brings out sharp blacks, as well as high-dynamic range colors, this is probably the most visually impressive VR device on the consumer market. It's a shame the VR medium's best traditional game, Valve's "Half-Life Alyx" may not see release on PlayStation's platform, where it could reach the potentially massive PlayStation audience.

Tobii says it's in talks to provide eye tracking for Sony's PlayStation VR2
Sony might not have locked down PlayStation VR2 specifications despite providing some details at CES 2022. Tobii says it's in talks to provide eye tracking technology for the next-gen VR headset. It noted the discussions were "ongoing" and that it couldn't share the potential financial impact of the deal. The firm is required to divulge the negotiations to honor EU market regulations. We've asked Sony for comment.
